I don't even know how I did this or if I did it right, but I've got an Exodus instant messenger with a handful of my tribe friends in it. Please don't call me retarded, but what now?

Mon, April 25, 2005 - 11:56 AMYAY!
Um..still I only have one person in my network that I see on it... I think I've chatted with barsnake before..but I think I'm blocked or something now...(well I'm not in barsnake's network).
I kind of feel that the way tribe has it set up in jabber...kinda difficult to do...

Mon, April 25, 2005 - 11:58 AMI'm like a tribe whore, but IM-ing is relatively new to me, so I don't know if it's the way Tribe has chosen to set it up that's wonky or the whole process is just confusing to me. -

Re: Holy Moly
Mon, April 25, 2005 - 12:04 PMWell they're using jabber...which isn't a popular IM product that most folks are really familar with to begin with.. and you gotta download a client..and there are a bunch of them to choose from...there's no real standardized thing to use..
Plus...my biggest complaint is that you can only view folks that are in your network...and only one person in my network uses it. it's not well advertised and it's sorta complicated to the average user.
I think they should have some sort of internal IM program...and maybe charge for it...at least it's easier to use..and they should make it so you can send IMs to folks that aren't in your network (maybe several degrees down)

Re: Holy Moly
Mon, April 25, 2005 - 12:06 PMmyspace has an internal IM thing, which is what got me all into trying this today. The myspace thing is WAY easier, but I'm TOTALLY not a myspacer. -

Re: Holy Moly
Mon, April 25, 2005 - 12:08 PMI don't care much for myspace myself I do have friends on it...I've noticed that funkster and myspace tend to appeal to a younger crowd...but tribe.net is more my age group and they're based in SF Bay area (lots of events in my neck of the woods) Plus I'm a moderator of two tribes.
Tribe does two things...have groups/tribes that are based on interests and tribes that are activity based...and that's what I like about it the most. Most Net groups...are interest based only and rarely have actual activities or meetups resulting from it...

Re: Holy Moly
Wed, March 22, 2006 - 6:43 PMThat's another good point, it's nota dvertised at all. If they really wanted peeps to use it, they'd put a link to an instruction page on the sidebar, thereby integrating it into the regular service features. Right now, its this wierd little secret.
